Blogathon 2007: And We're Off!

Good morning, everyone, and welcome to This Book is for You's Blogathon! I'm doing my best to channel Enid Blyton, Edgar Wallace, Lester Dent, and Walter Gibson this morning so I can write fast! If Edgar Wallace could write a book in a weekend, surely Brady and I can manage this.

We're blogging for the American Library Association Hurricane Katrina Relief Fund because we love libraries, we love the Gulf Coast, and there's a lot of work still to be done there.

Dozens of libraries in Mississippi and Louisiana were damaged or destroyed by Hurricanes Katrina and Rita in 2005. Immediately after the storms, many librarians stayed in their communities to help with rescue and salvage efforts, set up booths in shelters, and reopened as many libraries as they could within days of the storm to help provide one of the most valuable and scarce resources to hurricane survivors - information.

Today, we'll be covering the recovery efforts of libraries hit by the storms, and the work that remains to be done there. But we'll also be providing you with a slew of Gulf Coast book reviews, testimonials from library patrons about what their libraries mean to them, and having lots of Gulf Coast-themed contests involving cooking, music, and of course, books. Brady has also threatened to write and record a song over the next 24 hours.

If you'd like to sponsor this blog, you can do so here. Thanks for stopping by!

Woo hoo! You're off! I'll be gone from 8am til 5 pm, but I plan on providing moral support and readership during the latter, and possibly more strenuous, part of the blogathon.
